From Painting Spaces to Polling Places
How Two Dudes Encouraged Voting in the SoWe Neighborhood
At Two Dudes Painting Company, we are deeply involved in our home neighborhood of Southwest Lancaster City, known as SoWe. Our CEO Peter Barber sits on the SoWe board of directors and regularly hosts community events at our facility.
So when the original SoWe polling location (the local fire department) was undergoing extensive renovations, Barber was asked if the Two Dudes facility could be used in its place. After passing the necessary inspection, the facility became an official polling station in 2019.
Voting is the foundation of democracy and local elections are often the most powerful and impactful for our community. We believe every citizen should have access to this right, no matter their age, gender, race, or religious beliefs.
Our facility allows our neighbors to vote in a neutral space, separate from political or religious affiliation, while being accessible and welcoming to all. While some might find it odd that a painting company would open its doors to the public in this way, we see it as an opportunity to encourage everyone in the community to participate in elections and use their voices to create positive change.
